Panopto: Get started

What is Panopto?

Bryn Mawr College subscribes to Panopto, an online lecture-capture and video-streaming service that current faculty, staff and students can use to create, edit, and host streaming video for academic and college business purposes.

When do I need a Panopto account?

  • You DO NOT need an account to view public Panopto videos. Simply click on the link or hover over an embedded video and press play to view it. See Panopto: Share recordings for more information.
  • You DO need an account to:
    • View videos shared through Moodle. If you are enrolled in a Moodle course with a Panopto block, a Panopto account is created for you automatically.
    • View videos shared only with BMC Panopto account holders
    • Record or host your own streaming videos

Get and access your Panopto account

Attention non-Bryn Mawr students: your BMC Panopto account will only be accessible while you are enrolled in Bryn Mawr courses. For long-term access, check with your home institution – Haverford, Swarthmore and UPenn all have their own Panopto subscriptions.

  1. Go to brynmawr.hosted.panopto.com
  2. Choose a sign-in option:
    • Moodle -- Bryn Mawr faculty, students and staff and non-Bryn Mawr students enrolled in a Moodle course
    • Microsoft 365 -- for current Bryn Mawr students, faculty and staff only
  3. Click Sign In
  4. Enter your college credentials and authenticate with Duo if prompted (you may not need to if you are already logged in to a web platform using the same log-in option).
  5. Once you are logged in, you will see your Home page in Panopto

Record on Panopto

Instructors can log into Panopto via desktop app or online platform on a computer to start and stop the recording, and Panopto does the rest. Panopto can simultaneously record a screencast (e.g., of slides presented on computer and/or projected during a talk), audio, and (optionally) video.

  • Many lecture-style classrooms are equipped to record Panopto. To find one, go to the Technology Enhanced Classrooms webpage, find your building, and look for “lecture capture” in the listing.
  • With sufficient notice (at least 2 business days), Multimedia Services can set up other classrooms for recording. Request this when you reserve the room under “A/V Notes” on the Details tab in Virtual EMS, or contact Multimedia directly.
  • You can also record from any computer with a high-speed internet connection, webcam, and microphone.
