Do you have a library of recordings you would like to jointly manage with others or display on a public, curated landing page with featured recordings and playlists? Panopto offers department folders for just this kind of situation. Playlists and recordings hosted in department folders can be added to web pages or Moodle pages, just like any other Panopto recording.
Before you start, you may need access to the following:
Request LITS create a department folder
If your department or group does not already have a department folder, LITS will need to create one for you. Please do the following:
- Email help@brynmawr.edu a request for a department folder. Make sure to include your department name and the Bryn Mawr email addresses of the people who will jointly manage the folder.
- The next available staff member will contact you if they have any questions. Otherwise, they'll reach out when the folder is ready.
- Once the folder has been created, log in to Panopto and click Browse > Department Folders. Verify that your requested department folder is there

Add managers to your folder
Department folder administrators can give other people permission to manage department content.
- Log in to Panopto and click Browse > Department Folders tab and open your department folder.
- Click Settings.
- A pop-menu will open; go to Overview panel. In the Department section, click Manage Department Settings.
- On the next page click Access.

- In the Add users or groups as drop-down menu, select the role you want to give new users:
- Analytics Manager: can only look at usage statistics for department videos.
- Caption Requester: can only request automatic or human captions for videos.
- Content Organizer: can add, manage, and share department videos and create and share playlists.
- Department Administrator: can do all of the above and manage folder-level settings.
- In the Enter names, groups, or email addresses... box, add the names and email addresses of the people to whom you want to assign this role.
- Click Add users.
Create and feature playlists
Department administrators can create playlists, which can them be shared via a link or embedded directly into webpages.
Create the playlist:
- Log in to Panopto and click Browse > Department Folders tab and open your department folder.
- Click the + Create button and select Playlist.
- Enter a Name and, if desired, Description . Also make sure the Folder menu is set to the appropriate department folder if you have access to multiple. When finished, click Create.
- Upload the recordings you want to use in the playlist to this folder or one of its subfolders.
- Click +Add Videos. Click Close when finished adding videos.
The playlist will now be created. You will be taken to a new pop-up menu for managing it. Go to the Share tab to access a sharable link or embeddable code that can be used to share the playlist with others.
Feature it on your department landing page:
- Log in to Panopto and click Browse > Department Folders tab and open your department folder.
- On the Overview panel, click Manage Department Settings.
- Go the Featured playlists section, and click +Add playlist.
- Select the playlist from the list then click Add.

Customize branding
You can customize highlight color for the folder, add a logo, and add a logo to video view window for all videos in the folder.
- Log in to Panopto and click Browse > Department Folders tab and open your department folder.
- Click Settings.
- On the next page, select the Overview tab. In the Department menu, click Manage Department Settings.
- On the department settings page, click Branding.

- Change any of these features:
- Accent Color: Change color of the department banner, interface buttons (e.g., +Create), and highlights.
- Web and Email Logo: Change the logo in the top frame of the department folder page as well as any notifications about the folder (e.g., emails informing viewers that new videos have been posted).
- Viewer Logo and Embedded Logo: Change the logos displayed when playing departmental videos.
- Panopto Capture Default Background: Add a default backgrounds for Panopto Capture videos made from the departmental folder.
