Bryn Mawr instructors can now incorporate natural sciences videos and educational materials from the JoVE Education database into their Moodle courses a connection to our institutional JoVE subscription.
Before you start, you may need access to the following:
- An Instructor of record or Other editing teacher role in a Moodle course
- A JoVE Professor/Instructor account. If you don't have one, create one at https://www.jove.com/account using your Bryn Mawr College email address.
Add a JoVE video to a Moodle course
- Log into Moodle and open your course.
- On your Moodle course page, toggle the Edit Mode switch on.
- Go to the section where you want to place the video and click +Add an activity or resource.
- From the menu that opens, select External tool.
- Click the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu and choose JoVE.
- Click Select content.
- In the dialog window, click Videos, then search for and select the video you wish to add. Click Submit when finished.
- Click Save and return to course.
JoVE will automatically create an Activity name based on the content you chose. Edit this name if needed. Either way, your students will now be able to watch the videos.
Add a JoVE playlist to a Moodle course
- Log into Moodle and open your course.
- Toggle the Edit Mode switch on.
- Go to the section where you want to place the playlist and click +Add an activity or resource.
- Select External tool from the menu that opens.
- Click the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu and choose JoVE.
- Click Select content.
- In the dialog window, click Playlist, then search for and select the playlist you wish to add, and click Submit.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save and return to course.
JoVE will automatically create an Activity name based on the content you chose. Edit this as needed.
You can add different kinds of playlists to your Moodle course, including playlists shared with you, playlists you create, and playlists created by JoVE. A playlist first needs to be created on JoVE's site before it can be shared or edited. However, it can still be edited after it's been added to a course.
Add a JoVE Quiz to a Moodle course
Before you begin, we recommend creating your JoVE Quizzes and saving them to your JoVE online account. For help with JoVE Quizzes, see:

- Log into Moodle and open your course.
- Toggle the Edit Mode switch on.
- Go to the section where you want to place the quiz and click +Add an activity or resource.
- Select External tool from the menu that opens.
- Click the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu and choose JoVE.
- Click Select content.
- In the dialog window, click Quiz.
- Select a quiz you've added to your My Quizzes page in JoVE by clicking its (Add New LTI Tool) button. Then, click Submit.
- JoVE will automatically create an Activity name based on the content you chose; edit this if needed.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save and return to course.
JoVE will automatically create an Activity name based on the content you chose. Edit it if needed.You can choose from a library of pre-made quizzes or create your own to assess students' understanding. Students' scores or completion can be fed into Moodle's Gradebook, if desired.
