Our integration with the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) database allows instructors to important natural sciences and psychology content into Moodle courses. Here is more information on our JoVE subscription.
Before you start, you may need access to the following:
- An Instructor of record or Other editing teacher role in a Moodle course
- A JoVE Professor/Instructor account. If you don't have one, create one at https://www.jove.com/account using your Bryn Mawr College email address to access our subscription resources.

Add a JoVE video to a Moodle course
- Log into Moodle and open your course.
- Click Turn editing on.
- Go to the section where you want to place the video and click +Add an activity or resource.
- Click the All tab, then select External tool.
- Click the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu and choose JoVE.
- Click Select content.
- In the dialog window, click Videos, then search for and select the video(s) you wish to add, and click Submit.
- JoVE will automatically create an Activity name based on the content you chose; edit this if needed.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save and return to course.
Your students can now watch the video.
Add a JoVE playlist to a Moodle course
You can share JoVE's curated playlists, playlists you create, or playlists others share with you to a Moodle page. The playlist needs to be created before you can add it. However, it can still be edited after you've added it to a course.
- Log into Moodle and open your course.
- Click Turn editing on.
- Go to the section where you want to place the video and click +Add an activity or resource.
- Click the All tab, then select External tool.
- Click the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu and choose JoVE.
- Click Select content.
- In the dialog window, click Playlist, then search for and select the playlist(s) you wish to add, and click Submit.
- JoVE will automatically create an Activity name based on the content you chose; edit this if needed.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save and return to course.
Add a JoVE Quiz to a Moodle course
Choose from a library of pre-made quizzes or create your own to assess students' understanding of JoVE content. Students' scores or completion can be fed into Moodle Gradebook if desired.
Before you begin, we recommend creating your JoVE Quizzes and saving them to your JoVE My Quizzes page. For help with JoVE Quizzes, see:

- Log into Moodle and open your course.
- Click Turn editing on.
- Go to the section where you want to place the video and click +Add an activity or resource.
- Click the All tab, then select External tool.
- Click the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu and choose JoVE.
- Click Select content.
- In the dialog window, click Quiz.
- Select a quiz you've added to your My Quizzes page in JoVE by clicking its (Add New LTI Tool) button. Then, click Submit.
- JoVE will automatically create an Activity name based on the content you chose; edit this if needed.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save and return to course.
