What is Adobe Firefly?

Adobe Firefly is a generative AI tool used to create and edit images, audio, and video using text prompts. It is available as a web application and within Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Appropriate use

Your use of Adobe Firefly is governed by College policies and Adobe's terms of service.

Warning: You are prohibited from using the following content, per Adobe's Acceptable Use Policy.

  • Copyrighted material you don't own
  • Sensitive data


Adobe reserves the right to monitor content you generate for abuse of this policy.

  • Content you generate will not be used to train Adobe's generative AI models, except where you request it
  • Per Adobe's terms of service, you are only indemnified against claims of copyright infringement if you do not violate their Acceptable Use Policy concerning copyrighted materials.

Accessing Firefly

Firefly is accessible as a web application or within Photoshop and Illustrator. To access Firefly online:

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Navigate to the Adobe Firefly website
  3. Login, using the following account
    • Students: free Adobe ID
    • Faculty & Staff: College email and password

Using Firefly

Attention: Our license provides each user with 1000 generative credits per month, which are used across all Adobe applications. Every time you generate content, 1 credit is deducted from your monthly allowance.

Online

Once you've logged into Firefly's website, you can enter a prompt to generate or refine an image or video. Once finished, you can also export these files.

Generate

  1. To the left of the text box, select what type of design you want to generate
  2. Type a description of the content you want to generate

    Tip: The more detailed and specific your description, the better the result will be.
    See Adobe's guide on effective prompts.

  3. Click Generate
  4. All generations will be saved in Home  >  Files

Refine

  • Type additional descriptions
  • Upload reference images for Composition or Style
  • Adjust any of the following parameters
    • Aspect ratio
    • Visual intensity
    • Color and tone
    • Lighting
    • Camera angle

Export

Hover your mouse over your generation to see additional options.

  • Edit
  • Open in an Adobe application
  • Download to your computer
